5 Tips To Keep Ants Out Of Your Home

Ants can be a real pain when they start forming an army marching around the house one by one looking for an easy meal and cozy shelter. Do-it-yourself ant control remedies may be effective on a small scale, but if the situation is dire, seek the help of professionals.

Below are five helpful tips to keep ants at bay:

Regularly Sweep and Vacuum the Kitchen Area

Food that falls on your floor or gets lost in your kitchen's crannies and nooks are an open invitation to ants. These bits and crumbs of food ought to be thoroughly cleaned to keep an ant free kitchen.

Baking Soda

When ants ingest baking soda, it disrupts their natural chemistry. To make it stick so that they take it back to their nest, mix with an equal amount of powdered sugar. Put the mixture in a shallow container and keep it near the cabinets, pantry, and where they traverse or enter into your home to dwindle their population.

Peppermint Oil

Clean your surfaces thoroughly, and then wipe them down using a clean damp towel/cloth that has a few drops of essential peppermint oil. Besides the oil being environmentally friendly and safe for humans and pets, ants seem to dislike its smell.

Non-Toxic Ant Deterrents

You can protect your home with substances and scents that ants dislike. Consider using things such as cinnamon, bay leaves, cayenne pepper, black pepper, whole cloves, and vinegar. However, be careful when placing these deterrents and keep peppers or spicy stuff away from your curious children and pets.

Seal Pet Food

Keep pet food in sealed containers because ants are not the meticulous type. They look for any food they can get on their way. Besides, have wood, dirt piles, and sand cleared from anywhere near your home so that ants don’t find a favorable place to build a colony.

Bottom Line

Even though you may be living in the city, nature has a means of creeping in, as you’ll find ants in the bathrooms and kitchen assiduously attending to their work. That said, co-existing with these annoying creatures is disconcerting and to say goodbye to sharing your home with these annoying creatures, trying the above DIY methods.
